OVAL Adoption Program Process
For a product or service to be recognized as an official adopter of OVAL, it must complete the OVAL Adoption Program. The program involves four phases, each of which must be completed before proceeding to the next phase. Organizations that successfully complete all four phases will be listed as an "Official OVAL Adopter" on the OVAL Web site.
Phase 1: Declaration to Adopt OVAL
- Review the "OVAL Technical Use Cases Guide" document posted on the OVAL Web site.
- Email oval@mitre.org and request the "OVAL Adoption Declaration Form."
- Review Authority emails you declaration form.
- Complete the declaration form and return it to oval@mitre.org. (Information you will need to provide includes your organization name, organization and product page Web site addresses, category of the product/service type, specific OVAL capability of the product or service, and whether or not the status of the specific OVAL capability of the product or service is "available" or "planned.")
- The form is reviewed by the Review Authority and the product or service is added to the list of OVAL Adoption Program Participants on the OVAL Web site.
Phase 2: Implementation
- Work with the Review Authority to ensure proper integration of OVAL into the product or service.
- Complete the integration of OVAL into the product or service.
- Provide feedback on your experience to the OVAL Moderator and OVAL Community to help further the OVAL effort.
Phase 3: Questionnaire
- Email oval@mitre.org and request the "OVAL Adoption Questionnaire Form."
- Review Authority emails you the adoption questionnaire.
- Complete the adoption questionnaire and email it to oval@mitre.org. (This form includes detailed technical information of how your organization has incorporated OVAL into its product or service, per the current best-practice usages of OVAL as described in the "OVAL Technical Use Cases Guide.")
- The completed adoption questionnaire is reviewed by the Review Authority and posted on the OVAL Web site.
Phase 4: Recognition
- After completing an adoption questionnaire, MITRE contacts the organization and the product or service is listed as an "Official OVAL Adopter" on the OVAL Adoption Program Participants page on the OVAL Web site.
